Through recommendation from a friend, we found yet another Halal Malaysian eating place in the heart of Melbourne city.
Meet Madam Kay's Platz. It's conveniently located on Londsdale St, between Russell & Exhibition St (only about 10 minutes walk from Melbourne Central). We quite like the size of the cafe as it's not too big.... "very cafe like". Cozy decor with warm lighting design makes it look a bit classier and very suitable if you want to bring special guests for a Malaysian lunch. The cafe is not too formal so we think it'll definitely suit families with kids as well.
They have a limited but pretty good range of Malaysian cuisine such as in the menu below. Prices are a little bit higher than the eateries at Swanston St, but the food that we tried were tasty. They also sell a selection of pastries and sandwiches, coffee and tea, and a selection of Western breakfast menu.
These are the two dishes that we tried... BBQ Chicken Spicy Sauce with Rice,
and Nasi Lemak Sambal Petai.
Yes, they do have Teh Tarik and Teh Ais upon request :)
Madam Kay's Platz is located on 139 Londsdale St (between Russell & Exhibition St).
Currently on weekdays, they open from 7.30 am until 6.00 pm; and on weekends they open at 8.30 am until 6.00 pm.

St Kilda Beach Night Market
We've finally visited St Kilda Beach Night Market, and this time, we waited until it was dark outside to visit a Melbourne night market... to really get the 'night market' feel as oppose to an 'evening market'. The night market is located at O'Donnell Gardens, just right next to Luna Park. On the way there, you'll definitely get attracted to the lights of Luna Park, and soon after, you'll see some hints of colourful light bulbs behind the palm trees - that's the night market.
You'll find stalls selling different range of food, from Jamaican, to Argentinian BBQ, to Indian food, and we spotted a Turkish Gozleme stall (we'd have to double-check next time if they're Halal, which we reckon they are, but we'll reconfirm back since there was a bit of crowd last night that we just enjoyed our walk at the night market without purchasing anything). And you'll surely find a lot of clothing items, accessories, cute stuff for little kids, art works, bags, reiki massage stall, and really, there's just a mix range of things that's worth checking out.
And one of the festive part of this market is the sounds! If you go, try paying attention to the layers of sounds at this market - percussions, Jamaican music, some earth music, the different languages that from the crowd, and of course, the rattling roller coaster track and the screams.
St Kilda Beach Night Market operates in the summer on Thursday evenings, from 5.00 pm - 10.00 pm. Their final day market will be on Thursday, 25 February 2010.
It's located at O'Donnell Gardens, next to Luna Park.

Art Play @ Birrarung Mar, Yarra River
If you're in the city, and looking for a cool playground to take your kids, niece or nephews, then Art Play is definitely worth a visit. It's free and it's a pretty big and colourful playground. Art Play is located at Birrarung Mar, located next to Yarra River, so you'd get a nice scenery of both the river and a backdrop of the Melbourne city skyline all in one place. And it's always nice to take a walk or ride a bike along Yarra River.
Art Play is located next to Yarra River on Federation Square side.

Melbourne University Musolla @ Little Pelham St
We finally visited Melbourne University's Musolla, which is already well known among Melbourne University students and those studying in the city. This musolla looks recently built/renovated and is very spacious, complete with ablution and toilet facilities, and praying areas for men & women. This musolla is open during office hours, and shall you need to use it after office hours, then you're required to get an access/permission from the security (information is pasted at the front door of the Musolla).
Melbourne University Musolla is located on Little Pelham St, at a lane adjacent to Bouverie St, after Pelham St.
